The World Directory of Environmental Organizations was a guide to governmental and nongovernmental organizations and programs concerned with protecting the earth's resources. It covered national and international organizations throughout the world. The online version comprised more than 350 Web pages and over 365,000 words of text. It described hundreds of international organizations and programs, and included listings for well over a thousand groups in all the world's countries and territories. Descriptions of key organizations were often several hundred to over 2,500 words long. The first edition of the World Directory of Environmental Organizations was produced in 1973 under Sierra Club auspices by Ted Trzyna of the California Institute of Public Affairs. The second (1976), third (1989), fourth (1992), fifth (1996), and sixth (2001) editions were published by CIPA. The last two editions were copublished by CIPA with Earthscan in London. All six editions were published in cooperation with the IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature; and with or under the endorsement of the Sierra Club. Ted Trzyna continued to edit the World Directory. His coeditors for the six print editions were Eugene V. Coan, Judith Ruggles, Ilze M. Gotelli, Roberta Childers, Julia K. Osborn, Elizabeth Margold, and Julie Didion. REVIEW COMMENTS
