Working Group on Cities and Conservation

[Home page of this section]

An informal working group has been set up within the Task Force on Cities and Protected Areas of IUCN's World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) to advise the IUCN Secretariat and IUCN member organizations on carrying out a resolution, "Cities and Conservation," approved by the 3rd IUCN World Conservation Congress in November 2004. The resolution calls for IUCN to pay greater attention to the urban dimensions of conservation. It came out of discussions and meetings on this theme that started in 2002 within a group that eventually became the WCPA task force.
