Advisory Group on Cities and Conservation |
|
An informal advisory group has been set up within the Urban Specialist Group of IUCN's World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) to advise the IUCN Secretariat, other IUCN commissions, and IUCN member organizations on carrying out a resolution, "Cities and Conservation," approved by the 3rd IUCN World Conservation Congress in November 2004. The resolution calls for IUCN to pay greater attention to the urban dimensions of conservation. It came out of discussions and meetings on this theme that started in 2000 within a small circle that eventually became the WCPA specialist group.
It was always understood that the WCPA specialist group would be the base for putting together a broader IUCN urban initiative, in addition to its work on cities and protected areas.
