IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), World Commission on Protected Areas, Task Force on Cities and Protected Areas, Theme on Cities and Conservation in Mediterranean-type Regions: this Web site (see the home page of this subweb).
International Society of Mediterranean Ecologists. ISOMED is an association of natural scientists from many countries who study ecosystems in the world's five Mediterranean-type regions. It has held MEDECOS conferences every few years since 1971, but has no permanent address. Proceedings and papers from conferences have been published in print form. Some material from recent conferences is archived online. Use the term "MEDECOS" in search engines to find Web sites of conferences.

Australia:
The Mediterranean-type climate regions of Australia include parts of the states of South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia. Conservation organizations based in those states have a particular interest in MTEs, as do WWF - Australia and the Wilderness Society (of Australia). California Floristic Province (USA-Mexico):
The Mediterranean-type region of the U.S. state of California includes all the state except for desert and steppe (Great Basin) areas. A small part of the state of Oregon is also included. For an online directory of California environmental organizations, go to www.environmentaldirectory.net.
The Mediterranean-type region of Mexico extends only to the northwestern part of the state of Baja California. Most organizations directly concerned are based, or have offices in, Tijuana, Ensenada, or across the border in or near San Diego, California, USA. South Africa:
The Mediterranean-type region of South Africa, called the Cape Floristic Kingdom, includes parts of Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces.
